Barry Robson declares VAR is 'ruining the game' as Aberdeen boss rages at Graeme Shinnie red card

Barry Robson reckons VAR is "ruining the game" after Graeme Shinnie was sent off late on against Ross County.

Aberdeen picked up their sixth win on the spin in the Highlands with Duk's strike enough to seal it. Bojan Miovski also had one chalked off for a tight offside as the Pittodrie side continued their resurgence under Robson to move five clear of Hearts in third place.

But while it was a fairly routine 1-0 win for the Dons, it wasn't without its VAR drama. Deep into stoppage time, Shinnie saw red for a challenge on Jack Baldwin. Replays showed he won the ball but VAR Greg Aitken asked referee Euan Anderson to have a look and he deemed there was excessive force in the challenge. And a fuming Robson told BBC Sportsound: "I don't think it's a red card. He's won the challenge, we want our players in the Scottish game to challenge and slide tackle. He's won the ball first, it's bounced off him, and he's actually trying to pull his leg in after the challenge.

"For me it's not a sending off. I want my players to play like that, so I'll speak to the club after this and see what we can do.

"With VAR it's just continuous, one thing after another. Every time there's a decision everyone is asking the referee 'are you checking it?!' For me, it's ruining the game."
