Alan Burrows asks one Aberdeen question of SFA as Graeme Shinnie ban sparks calls for disciplinary inquest

Aberdeen chief executive Alan Burrows has insisted they don’t want to torch the SFA’s disciplinary system but they have a burning desire to lead change from within.

The Dons were left furious when their appeal against their captain Graeme Shinnie’s red card appeal at Ross County was kicked out and then an extra game was added before it was felt their challenge was frivolous. Pittodrie chiefs have vowed to push for change and Burrows admitted they have support from other clubs.

He wants to look at ways of revamping the Judicial Panel Protocol and also working more closely with the refereeing fraternity. Burrows said: “Where we see the opportunity, we want to use the influence we have at the top of the game with the influences and the infrastructure to try to make positive change. The JPP which we were referring to specifically is over a decade old and hasn’t had, in my knowledge, any real, proper stress test.

“Is it fit for the purpose of the job the clubs still need it to do? We want to make sure the people we have got in positions of power play an active part in the months ahead, working with other clubs and with the SFA – not against them.

“We want to get to a situation where we are a wee bit happier with things that we think need a wee bit of a review. I always think review is healthy. If something is 13 years old and not had much of a root and branch review at any point then it is healthy to continue to look at it.”

There have been some similar challenges to the Shinnie which has gone unpunished or been rescinded in recent weeks. Burrows knows it is the inconsistency that frustrated everyone. However, he thinks there is a want from all sides to come together for the greater good of the game.
