Barry Robson admits another Aberdeen FC fixture gauntlet awaits but boss won't wince over postponement headache
Aberdeen have had a gruelling first half of the season but Barry Robson knows it will be just as back-breaking after the break as they look to play Premiership catch-up - on all fronts.
The Dons, who take on St Mirren on Saturday, have had to juggle the demands of domestic and Europa Conference League group stage football up until Christmas. They have now bowed out of Europe and are focused on the league but back-to-back cancellations against Dundee and Motherwell has meant the Dons are now four games behind some of their top-flight rivals.
Robson’s side will need to fit them into the second half of the campaign, as they look to put a run together like he did when he came in last January, which saw the Dons go from the bottom half all the way to third place. “It looks like we’ll be going the same again for the back end of the season as we’ve a lot of matches to catch-up,” Robson confirmed.
“Obviously, we were desperate to play (against Motherwell on Wednesday) but when you see roads being shut you can’t take chances with people’s safety. Their welfare was more important than the game so it was the right decision.
“We’ve looked at the scheduling. “We had a real backlog with the European stuff. I sat with Steven Gunn (director of football) and Alan Burrows (chief executive) and we went through some stuff.
"We’ve looked at some dates and we will be in talks to see where we can get the games in because obviously it will be a busy second half of the season.
“That’s okay. We want to play games and we played lots of games and we’ve played a lot of them which has been great and we will have to do that in the second half of the season."
The backlog of Premiership games means the Dons are playing catch up in terms of matches
