Stefan Gartenmann in Aberdeen FC transfer talks as Barry Robson looks to make defender stay permanent

Aberdeen are pushing for a deal to sign Stefan Gartenmann on a permanent basis.

The experienced defender is on-loan for the season from Midtjylland. The 26-year-old has impressed for the Dons and they are trying to see if they can make it a long-term arrangement. Talks are on-going with his Danish parent club and with the player’s representative to see if an agreement can be reached.

Manager Barry Robson stated: “We are in contact with a lot of player’s agents all the time. I have been really pleased with him (Stefan) and I really like him as a player. He has done well for us and is a good player. I really like him but I can’t speak about it until something is done but has done really well for the club.”

The deal is for the entire campaign and there is no loan recall this month. “It is a loan for the season,” Robson stated.

Gartenmann didn’t come in until the final day of the summer window. Robson admitted the centre half had been a long-term target and he had been trailing him for months. He has since come in and hit the ground running, alongside fellow new boys Slobodan Rubezic and Richard Jensen.

Robson added: “They all came in at different times. Slobodan came in before the Livingston game, Richard was six or seven games in and Stefan before the close of the window. I wanted to get the right players. It would have been great to get all the players in for pre-season but I wanted to wait to get the right players.”
