Baffled Chris Sutton lets rip over turfed out Celtic penalty as VAR say no to Kyogo after offside ruled out

A fuming Chris Sutton was left completely perplexed by the decision not to award Celtic a penalty in their 4-0 win against Kilmarnock.

Late in the second half, Kyogo latched onto a ball inside the area from Matt O'Riley's free kick only to be wiped out by Killie stopper Robby McCrorie, with the ball then running out of play. To the Japanese star's amazement, no spot kick was awarded by on-field referee Don Robertson, with the VAR team led by Greg Aitken deciding not to intervene. There had been some suggestion that Kyogo was standing in an offside position, with replays showing that the officials were in for a tight call and Sky insisted that offside had been ruled out before the penalty was checked.

A stunned and furious Sutton said: "That's ridiculous. I am baffled and absolutely speechless. If he's onside that should be a penalty. How has the penalty not been awarded there? McCrorie knows he didn't get the contact."
