Baby-faced knife attacker one of two teenagers jailed after stabbing man on estate

Two teenagers have been jailed after stabbing a man on a Wilmslow estate, leaving him with with a punctured lung and stomach. Cameron Newman, 19, from Longsight, and a 17-year-old who cannot be named for legal reasons targeted their victim on Foden Walk, on the Colshaw Farm estate.

Cheshire Police became aware a man had been stabbed at around 12.50am on Tuesday, January 24. The victim, a now 26-year-old man, had been stabbed in the chest.

Officers attended the scene and identified Newman and the youth as the offenders. Newman was arrested nearby, and a small amount of cannabis was found in his possession.

A police dog tracked the youth to a nearby garden. Upon arrest, the 17-year-old admitted assaulting the victim.

A knife matching the description of what was used to assault the victim was recovered from a rear garden near to where the pair were detained. A mobile phone belonging to Newman was seized and police discovered messages which indicated the pair had been planning to harm the victim.

The pair were charged the day after the attack and appeared in Chester Crown Court on Thursday (August 31). Newman, of Beresford Road, Longsight, was sentenced to six years and nine months after admitting section 18 assault and possession of a bladed article.

He was also sentenced for possession of cannabis. The 17-year-old offender, from Wilmslow, was sentenced to six years after previously pleading guilty to section 18 assault and possession of a bladed article.
