Two men charged after crackdown on ATM thefts

Two men have been charged after a police crackdown on cash machine thefts.

Both men have been charged with conspiracy to cause an explosion likely to endanger life, together with drugs and robbery offences.

Greater Manchester Police said Benjamin Thompson, 36, and Wesley Shepherd, 39, were both due to appear before magistrates in Manchester today - Friday.

In a statement, GMP said: "Officers from GMP's Serious and Organised Crime Group (SOCG) launched a proactive investigation in July to crackdown on ATM thefts at commercial premises across Greater Manchester and Staffordshire.

"Benjamin Thompson, 36, of Kenworthy Lane, Wythenshawe, has been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to cause an explosion likely to endanger life and possession with intent to supply cocaine.

"Wesley Shepherd, 39, of Thirsk Ave, Sale has been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to cause an explosion likely to endanger life and possession with intent to supply cocaine.

"They both will appear at Manchester and Salford magistrates court on 22 September, 2023."

No further details have been released.
