Auston Trusty 'wanted' by Celtic as Mikey Johnston makeweight mooted for ex Rangers transfer target

Celtic are reportedly planning a move for former Rangers target Auston Trusty at Sheffield United - and could use out of favour winger Mikey Johnston as part of the deal.

A hive of transfer activity is expected at Parkhead in the final eight days of the window, with Matt O'Riley closing in on a big money move to Brighton while Kyogo has been eyed up as a shock target for Manchester City. Brendan Rodgers is keen to add to the four signings made so far this summer and the Hoops are in advanced talks with LAFC over a deal for midfielder Mateusz Bogusz.

One other area he is looking to strengthen is at left back, and according to Sun Sport, Blades defender Trusty - who was linked with a switch to bitter rivals Rangers 12 months ago - has been identified as a candidate to challenge Greg Taylor for the starting berth at left back. The 26-year-old only joined Sheffield United from Arsenal at the start of last season for £5million and appeared 32 times in the Premier League as the Bramall Lane side suffered relegation back to the English second tier.

Trusty - who has won two caps for his native USA - can play at both left back and centre back. The same report adds that Johnston could be used as a makeweight in any potential transfer, despite reports that the former West Brom loanee is due to have a medical with fellow English Championship club Burnley.
