Astonishing Alfredo Morelos transfer caper emerges as ex Rangers star's agent incredibly denies Santos' claim

Alfredo Morelos is at the centre of a bizarre stand-off after Santos announced they had loaned him to Colombian club Atletico Nacional - only for his agent to deny it.

The former Rangers striker was on the books at Ibrox for an extended period, but was allowed to leave last summer for free after his contract came to an end. His move to Pele's old club in Brazil has been an unmitigated disaster and he can't get a game for the club who are now playing in the second tier. He hasn't played since the start of last month.

Santos gave the green light for the hitman to return to his homeland with Atletico Nacional after they beat Athletico Junior and America de Cali to his signature on a temporary basis. The club confirmed that the 28-year-old would be heading out on a loan until the end of the year - but his agent, Martin Camano has DENIED the deal has gone through. He stated: "We are still negotiating with both clubs and Alfredo himself. Nothing is confirmed."

Nacional have reportedly agreed to pay around 20 per cent of Morelos' wages, but Santos are believed to want more of a salary share for their flop striker. Morelos left Colombia in 2016 when he moved from Independiente to HJK Helsinki. before joining Rangers in 2017.

He scored 124 goals in 269 games for Rangers before finally clinching a return to South America last year. Morelos, who left the Ibrox side after 178 league appearances, where he scored 78 league goals and 124 in all competitions during a six-year spell, will finally seal a return home.
