Former Rangers star Kyle Hutton suffers injury on Gartcairn debut as boss admits 'it doesn't look great'

Gartcairn boss Mick Dunlop admits a late injury to summer signing Kyle Hutton compounded their opening day defeat at home to Clydebank.

The Airdrie outfit went down 3-1 at MTC Park after taking the lead through a Mark McGuigan penalty early on in the West of Scotland Premier Division clash.

But ex-Rangers midfielder Hutton looks like being sidelined for a spell after sustaining an elbow injury in the 89th minute.

Dunlop said: “Kyle Hutton has got a sore one on his elbow so we’ll need to get that assessed and see. He has been excellent for us in pre-season so it will be a blow if he is out.

“Hopefully it won’t be too long, but early indications are that it doesn’t look great. It just sums the day up and compounds it for us.

“Clydebank were better than us and deserved their win. I was really disappointed in our performance. I thought all over the pitch, individually, we were poor, we were second best.”

Dunlop, whose side now travel to Pollok on Wednesday, kick-off 7.30pm, and host St Cadoc’s on Saturday, added: “Against the run of play, we got a penalty and you hope that gives you a wee lift but no. We gave away a really avoidable goal from a set-piece and we switch off for 1-1.

“I had a go at them at half-time and told them we need to get on the ball, raise our levels and really improve the performance but, to be honest, we didn’t do that at all. We need to dust ourselves down for a big game on Wednesday and we will need to be a million times better.”
