Aston Villa to make shock £25m decision as Danny Ings transfer claim made

Aston Villa could 'entertain offers' for Danny Ings this summer, according to reports.

Steven Gerrard wants to recruit another striker to add to his attacking arsenal before the start of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign, and 90min claim Ings could be offloaded as a result. The report claims the arrival of a new number nine will inevitably push Ings down the pecking order with Ollie Watkins often the preferred striker.

Youngster Cameron Archer is also impressing during this month's internationals with England's under-21s. The 20-year-old has scored three goals in two games, including a brace against Kosovo last time out.

Gerrard is expected to give the striker an opportunity to stake a claim for Premier League minutes next season, following his successful loan spell at Preston North End. Archer scored seven goals in 18 starts under Ryan Lowe and will be given the pre-season to make his point to Villa's coaching staff.

If Villa do recruit another forward, it would leave Gerrard with four strikers all wanting game time. That's what 90min claim could lead to the club assessing Ings' future, despite arriving just last summer from Southampton for £25million.

Ings has scored seven times in 31 appearances across all competitions since arriving at Villa Park in one of the shock moves of the 2021 summer window. Former clubs Southampton, Bournemouth and Brighton are all reportedly interested in the on the 29-year-old.
