Aston Villa set to miss out on Newcastle transfer target as Wolves prepare £50m swoop
Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly interested in signing Brazilian striker Gabriel Barbosa after the Flamengo striker was previously linked with a move to Aston Villa and Newcastle United in January.
Barbosa, 25, is said to be keen to prove himself in Europe again after a disappointing spell at Inter Milan from 2016 to 2018 where he scored just one Serie A goal for the Italian giants.
According to 90min, Villa's Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to hold 'talks' for the striker as well as Argentinian midfielder Enzo Fernandez in the coming days. Wolves chief scout Matthew Hobbs is supposedly travelling to South America, where he will look to try and 'broker' deals for Barbosa and Fernandez.
Wolves are hoping that the combined cost of the two players will fall below £50 million, however, in order to complete a deal Bruno Lage's side will need to work quickly due to the interest a bid could generate.
