Newcastle United urged to sign Aston Villa star as Steven Gerrard transfer claim made
Newcastle United have been encouraged to make a move to sign Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz this summer as head coach Steven Gerrard " obviously has someone in mind" to bolster their midfield.
Birmingham Live understands that Villa are "open to offers" for the Brazil international who has exactly 12 months remaining on his contract at Villa Park. Douglas made 35 appearances across all competitions last season and featured in all but one match under Steven Gerrard since the new boss' opener against Brighton and Hove Albion.
Noveau riche Newcastle have already signed Matt Targett from Villa earlier this month after spending the second half of last season on loan at St James' Park and another is reportedly 'on their radar' adding another. Premier League pundit Kevin Campbell believes that Douglas would be a " great option".
