Aston Villa to 'hold talks' over Boubacar Kamara transfer after Steven Gerrard hint

Aston Villa will reportedly "offer" Marseille's Boubacar Kamara a five-year deal at Villa Park.

Kamara has been consistently touted with a move to Steven Gerrard ’s side in recent weeks, as the club are continually linked with bringing in a defensive midfielder. The 22-year-old, who can also play centre-back, has been a regular for the French side since 2018 and has been a virtual ever-present this term, making 32 league appearances.

The Villa boss was spotted in Marseille alongside sporting director Johan Lange and chief executive Christian Purslow last month, in what was suggested to be a potential scouting mission for Kamara. The 22-year-old’s contract is set to come to an end this summer leading the Frenchman to be the subject of numerous transfer reports.

However, football journalist Ekrem Konur has claimed that Villa "will hold talks" with the player’s agent and plan to "offer the French star a contract until 2027". Though Konur also states that a total of five teams are interested in the Marseille man.

It was reported by the Daily Mail on Sunday that the club had “held further talks” over a potential deal. While it was claimed on Monday that the future free agent could be demanding as much as £150,000-a-week in wages .

Kamara is one of several holding midfielders that have linked with a move to B6 this summer, with the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Yves Bissouma also mentioned. However, as showcased by Marvellous Nakamba’s performances earlier this season, Steven Gerrard emphasised the importance of finding a defensive midfielder that can provide a solid base for his side.
