Aston Villa willing to sell Danny Ings to Premier League suitor as Steven Gerrard hunts ‘A-list’ replacement
Aston Villa striker Danny Ings is being tipped to join a rival Premier League club this summer as Steven Gerrard wants to land an ‘A-list’ replacement.
The Villans have already shown their intentions for next season by capturing highly rated midfielder Boubacar Kamara from Marseille. The 22-year-old had been courted by Manchester United and Newcastle, only for Gerrard’s side to win the free-transfer race.
Kamara, who could soon become a full France international, will link up with Aston Villa once his Marseille contract expires on June 30.
According to Football Insider, Gerrard wants a high-quality striker added to his ranks, too.
The report claims he is searching for an ‘A-list’ attacker who will help Villa reach the next level and potentially get into the Premier League’s top 10.
He currently has Ings and Ollie Watkins at his disposal. But the Liverpool legend is open to selling Ings to part-fund a move for someone else.
Ings, 29, cost £25million when joining from Southampton last summer. However, he had a slightly disappointing first campaign in the West Midlands. Just seven goals came his way in 31 appearances.
In 2020-21, he bagged 13 goals in 33 matches for Southampton – demonstrating his usual high standards.
Many would expect Gerrard to stick with the Englishman ahead of a potential upturn in form next season. But that isn’t the case and he seemingly wants an immediate solution.
The report suggests Ings may end up at Brighton. Like Villa, the Seagulls are on the lookout for a better striker than their current options.
And given Ings’ Premier League experience, he would be a fantastic capture for Graham Potter.
It seems Villa will need to identify Ings’ potential successor up top before the transfer wheels can be
