Aston Villa squad value compared to Chelsea, Liverpool and Man United after January transfers
Aston Villa and the other 19 Premier League clubs have all named their 25-man squads for the second half of the 2021/22 season.
A busy transfer window for some clubs has seen them increase their sides, while others have remained largely the same or even downsized in some cases.
In football, as in life, there’s a huge gap between the rich and the poor, something that’s evident when you look at how much each club spent in transfer fees assembling their squad.
The Reach Data Unit have taken each club’s 25-man squad and under-21 players, and totalled up the reported transfer fee for each player.
Unsurprisingly, Manchester City have spent by far and away the most of any Premier League club, with Pep Guardiola’s squad costing £808.6million in transfer fees.
That’s followed by Manchester United at a cost of £685m and Chelsea with £654m, while at the other end of the spectrum are Norwich City, whose squad cost just £58.4m to assemble. Brentford’s cost £70.3m, Watford’s £83.4m and Burnley’s £90.6m.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, sit ninth on the list with a squad that cost just over £275m to put together after making a splash in the January transfer window.
Most notably, Steven Gerrard brought in playmaker and former Liverpool teammate Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona. The club also completed permanent deals for Lucas Digne from Everton and Calum Chambers from Arsenal.
