Aston Villa injury state of play ahead of Everton clash

Aston Villa will be looking to get the new season back on track when they take on Everton at Villa Park on Saturday.

Steven Gerrard's side will look to bounce back after falling to a 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth in the opening weekend. Villa dominated possession but were placed on the back foot almost instantly as Jefferson Lerma opened the scoring on three minutes before Kieffer Moore ensured defeat with a header, ten minutes from time.

Returning to Villa Park for the first time since May, Villa will hope to earn a redemptive victory over Everton in front of a packed-out crowd at B6. Frank Lampard’s side narrowly avoided relegation last term and Villa have a solid record against the Toffees since returning to the Premier League, winning four and drawing two of the clashes between the pair.

Villa have been relatively fortunate in terms of the fitness of their squad as a whole throughout the summer. Ezri Konsa made an accelerated return from his knee injury during pre-season, while Leon Bailey maintained his fitness after a frustrating debut campaign. Midfielder Morgan Sanson also declared himself fit on social media after not making the matchday squad against Bournemouth.
