Ashford United manager Lloyd Hume’s verdict on their FA Cup second qualifying round exit against Chatham Town

Lloyd Hume said football was about moments after Ashford were knocked out of the FA Cup by Chatham.

The Nuts & Bolts trailed Isthmian Premier Chats 2-0 after 15 minutes of Saturday’s second qualifying round tie at Homelands.

Skipper Gary Lockyer went close for the Isthmian South East hosts before half-time and, had that gone in, boss Hume felt they might have got back into the tie.

As it was, Chatham substitute Kofi Anokye-Boadi added to early goals from ex-Ashford youngster Stanley Oldfield and Tope Fadahunsi as the visitors eased through.

“I said to the players in there, football for me is about moments,” said Hume.

“I look back at the first half and we gave a really cheap goal away, really early.

“They didn’t have to do a lot to score, we left runners.

“Everything we talked about, Chatham didn’t disappoint us.

“They’re a well-drilled side, we knew exactly what they were going to do and the first opportunity they had to do it, we didn’t cope with it, which was really disappointing.

“We absolutely gifted them a second goal, which in essence kills the game.

“But I look back just before half-time, we had the best chance of that half and we don’t score it.

“I think if we go in half-time at 2-1, it’s a different game.

“I want to be absolutely clear, I don’t think we deserved anything from that game, Chatham were dominant over us, but those moments in games are really important.

Report: Ashford 0-3 Chatham

“We changed our shape at half-time and until they scored their third goal we dominated possession, we got in good areas, we had chances that we’d ordinarily take and we have been taking.

“We didn’t take them today and then they break away and score and the game’s over.

“I look back and go how many chances did they
