Asda shoppers told to buy 14p item to get extra £5 to spend in store

Shoppers have until the end of June to take advantage of an Asda rewards offer that nets them £5 to spend on their shopping - and all they have to do is buy something in the supermarket.

This could be your next meal deal, or even something as cheap as a 14p banana, and the supermarket giant will reward you with a free £5 voucher to spend on whatever you like in-store. You won't need to rush yourself either, as people have until midnight at the end of June to take advantage of the free cash.

To do this, you need to be a new customer using the Asda Rewards app and making your first purchase in either a store or online. Then, a free fiver will appear in your app wallet, which you can then convert into a voucher that can be spent on anything at an Asda supermarket, or to take a nice chunk off your next online order.

There is no minimum spend needed to get this reward, so the personal finance gurus at Money Saving Expert (MSE) have advised: "You could buy a cheap item such as a single loose banana for 14p and still get £5 in your Cashpot."

Once you have downloaded the Asda Rewards app, you will find a whole series of offers and rewards under the "Earn" tab. These are a series of spending missions that can net you money off your next shop, and the easiest is the "First scan bonus", which is automatically completed when you make a purchase and scan the Rewards app.

Unlike other supermarket reward schemes, this voucher is not immediately applied, rather £5 is added to you Cashpot, which you can convert into vouchers in £1 increments. Once converted, you can use the voucher to buy anything with no minimum spend. Although after six months,
