Arsenal fans pile in as Aston Villa and Wolves stars 'admired' by transfer chiefs

Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielders Douglas Luiz and Ruben Neves continue to be linked with a move to Arsenal.

The Athletic report that the pair are 'admired' by the Gunners ahead of a potential move in the summer.

Arsenal want to sign a midfielder this month but their pursuit of Arthur Melo could be disrupted by Villa 's plans to bring in his Juventus team-mate Rodrigo Bentancur on a permanent deal.

In Douglas 's case, the Brazilian was heavily linked with a move away from Villa in the summer but neither AS Roma, whose boss Jose Mourinho is an admirer of the 23 year-old, nor Arsenal made their move.

It is highly unlikely Villa will want to sell Douglas, who has also been tipped to return to Manchester City, but there needs to be movement on the player's contract with the former Vasco da Gama player nearing the end of his deal.

With 18 months left on his contract, Douglas is starting to lose value and he could sign for an overseas club on a free transfer this time next year

Wolves could cash in on Neves to give Molineux boss Bruno Lage funds to strengthen his side in the summer, but what is certain is that the player will not be moving on this month.

The same applies for Douglas, too, with Villa and Wolves targeting strong finishes to the season.

And Arsenal fans have had their say on the claims, with one writing on social media: "We should have gone for them at the start of the window."

"Would be great signings that would improve us but I can't see that happening with just six days remaining," another added while a third fan said: "I have seriously changed my mind on Neves."

"Bring me Neves," another said.

"Those midfield targets are...underwhelming," a fifth Arsenal supporter said.
