Ryan Reynolds on his time at Wrexham AFC - but it may not be the one you're thinking of

Ryan Reynolds is now famously one half of the Hollywood duo in current ownership of Wrexham AFC, but what a lot of people may not know is that Ryan Reynolds was once a promising youth player at the National League club.

Whilst Reynolds is known worldwide for his roles in various blockbusters and for being Wrexham AFC co-chairman alongside Rob McElhenney, not as much is known about his namesake - Caernarfon-born former Everton, Cardiff City, Wrexham and Wales youth international Ryan Reynolds, now plying his trade at Cymru Premier side Penybont.

The youngster started his footballing journey with the Dragons as a six-year-old boy before joining Merseyside giants Everton.

Unfortunately, injuries hampered Reynolds' development, and he was subsequently released from Everton at 16 years old and then again from Cardiff City after a hamstring tear left the young midfielder requiring surgery.

Asked what it was like to share a name with the Dragons owner, Reynolds said: "It’s funny and repetitive. Everywhere I go, when people require ID or ask for my name, I always get the same responses: ‘no way’, ‘were you named after him’, ‘BTEC version of Deadpool’ - you get the gist of it!

"But it’s also kind of cool considering the story of it all. My journey as a footballer began at Wrexham AFC as a six-year-old boy, and now a over a decade later a celebrity named Ryan Reynolds has joint ownership of the club.

"It’s funny - out of all the clubs in the world, he chose Wrexham, where he’s now the second Ryan Reynolds involved with the club."
