Arsenal: Edu already 'looking for' exciting signing at the Emirates

Arsenal still want to bring in an attacker after missing out on Raphinha, believes CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

The Brazilian was a target for the Gunners before moving to Barcelona in a £55m deal, and Jacobs says their pursuit of him shows that Mikel Arteta is desperate to sign someone in his position.

Arsenal’s bid for Raphinha was deemed insufficient by Leeds United (via The Athletic), while technical director Edu recently revealed that the player’s agent made it clear that his client only wanted to join Barcelona.

“It’s fair we did have some conversations with Deco because Deco is his agent and I have a good relationship [with him] – we are friends,” Edu told Sky Sports.

“I just said to Deco, ‘Can you explain to me the situation with Raphinha?’ and he was clear, ‘Edu, we have a good relationship but I’m not going to lie to you, his idea is to go to Barcelona because he’s dreaming to go to Barcelona, and we’ve been talking to Barcelona since a long time ago.’ “

As well as Arsenal, Chelsea were also interested in signing the Brazil international, so he was quite clearly not short of suitors during this transfer window.

Jacobs thinks Arsenal and Arteta could re-enter the market for an alternative to Raphinha.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the CBS reporter said: “It’s absolutely clear that Arsenal are looking for another creative-minded player, whether you call them a winger, a false nine potentially, although I don’t think that’s the absolute priority, an attacking midfielder or a No.10.

“You can call them what you like, but it’s obvious from the Raphinha saga that Arsenal would like a player in that position.”

Another attacker Arsenal have been linked with this summer is Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane.
