Arsenal dealt major injury blow with Martin Odegaard update ahead of Man City clash

Arsenal have been dealt an injury blow to club captain Martin Odegaard with the clash against Manchester City on the horizon.

City are not due to face Arsenal in the Premier League until September 22. Pep Guardiola's side will take on Brentford this weekend in the first match after the international break, before hosting Inter Milan in the Champions League next midweek.

The clash at the Etihad Stadium later this month will be the first chance to see last season's title rivals go head-to-head this term. However, it seems that Arsenal will be without one of their key players when they face City.

Odegaard suffered an ankle injury during an appearance for Norway on Monday night in the Nations League. The Arsenal captain was alongside City striker and Norway teammate Erling Haaland as he was withdrawn from the match with a suspected ankle issue.

On Tuesday, Odegaard was spotted boarding an aeroplane and was on crutches while not wearing a shoe on his left foot. Now a fresh update has emerged on the Arsenal skipper's fitness, with a spell on the sidelines expected.

Norway national team doctor Ola Sand has confirmed that Odegaard has suffered an ankle injury and is set to be out for several weeks, also missing the weekend clash against fierce rivals Tottenham. Sand also stated that Arsenal are set to undergo further tests on Odegaard's injury in the coming days.

"Such ankle injuries often take at least three weeks. Anything other than that is just a bonus. And then it can take longer," Sand told VG.
