Arsenal: Arteta 'will be annoyed' over major concern at the Emirates

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will be angry with himself if Emile Smith Rowe faces a spell on the sidelines due to the club being unable to sign a winger, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The England international suffered an injury after Arsenal’s defeat at Old Trafford on Sunday, just days after the Gunners boss was unable to strengthen his wide options.

It’s been a frustrating start to the season for the 22-year-old, who’s been restricted to just 47 minutes in Arsenal’s first six Premier League games.

Smith Rowe’s most recent outing was a 16-minute cameo appearance off the bench against Manchester United, although he wasn’t able to prevent his side from dropping their first points of the season.

Bukayo Saka had cancelled out Antony’s strike, but two Marcus Rashford goals in 10 second half minutes stretched United’s winning run to four matches and ended Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the campaign.

Things went from bad to worse after the full-time whistle for the Londoners after The Athletic‘s David Ornstein claimed that Smith Rowe had suffered an injury in the warm-down.

Ornstein said that he had pulled up and looked ‘distressed’ and was ‘accompanied’ by the club’s assistant manager as he left the pitch.

Smith Rowe’s potential setback could leave Arteta extremely short in the wide areas, with Thursday’s Europa League game against Zurich the first of four games in 11 days for Arsenal, who might be forced to play one of their regular starters Gabriel Martinelli or Saka.
