Argentina chief gives update on Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho's international future

Argentine Football Association international scouting director Juan Martin Tassi remains confident that Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho will pledge his international future to the 2022 World Cup winners.

The youngster, who has racked up 29 appearances for United this season, was recently included in the Argentina squad for their upcoming friendlies against Panama and Curacao this month. However, he was forced to pull out after suffering an ankle injury during the Reds' goalless draw with Southampton.

It means the 18-year-old, despite previously being included in the Argentina squad, is still waiting to make his senior debut for his country. As a result it is still possible he could choose to represent Spain - the country he was born and raised in He has played for the Spanish Under-18s.

But, despite various reports claiming that Spain are going to try and make a last-ditch attempt to change Garnacho's mind, Tassi is optimistic the United wonderkid will continue with his plan to represent Argentina.

Tassi, speaking to Ole, said: "We have a fluid dialogue with Garnacho and his family. It's not something of a moment, but something that developed over time. He is very happy to be taken into account by the Argentine National Team.

"The case of Garnacho is the product of the work we have been doing, the closeness that we propose on a day-to-day basis made him lean towards Argentina. All this accompaniment is essential and they feel it."

Garnacho, who has scored four goals and registered five assists for United this season, has previously represented Argentina at youth-level and played for the Under-20s on five occasions last year.
