Antony sends fresh Manchester United reminder after Betis heroics as transfer reality laid bare
Antony just cannot stop scoring at Real Betis as Manchester United struggle for goals this season.
Before his exit on loan last month, Antony had scored just one goal across 14 appearances this campaign, with that one strike coming from the penalty spot against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup back in September. On Sunday, he netted the opening goal for Betis in their 3-0 win over Real Sociedad.
The ball fell to him on the edge of the penalty area, before he struck a volley through a crowd of players and past Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro. The goal took Antony's tally for the loan spell in Spain up to three in just four matches, as well as being awarded player of the match three times so far - sending United a message in the process.
Taking to Instagram, he shared some pictures from the game and wrote in Spanish: "A lot of Betis," followed by a pray and green heart emoji.
Betis posted a video of Antony's goal while La Liga simply shared a picture of the Brazilian with the caption: "Antony. What a player," followed by a fire emoji which was shared on his Instagram stories.
Speaking to reporters after the game, the winger was quizzed about his current form in comparison to that at United. "I think the most important thing is to be happy and here, I'm really happy," Antony replied. "As I've said before, I'm really happy to score to help the team and we'll keep going like this. I'm not setting a number for goals, I work hard every day. I'm really focused, really happy here."
United on the other hand, were unable to respond to a first half strike by James Maddison and fell to a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in north London on Sunday. The result leaves them 15th in the table with a game at Everton to come next Saturday.
