Antony delivers blunt Manchester United response after latest loan heroics
Manchester United loanee Antony has admitted he knew he would be happy at Real Betis following his temporary move.
The Brazilian continued his blistering start for the Spanish outfit as he found the back of the net in their 3-0 win over Gent in the UEFA Conference League.
Antony was the player-of-the-match on his debut before netting his first goal for the club during their 3-2 defeat to Celta Vigo. And on Thursday, he opened his account in Europe after scoring the opener in their Round of 32 showdown.
The 24-year-old expertly curled from the edge of the box to break the deadlock just two minutes after the restart. Manuel Pelligrini's side sailed into a commanding first-leg lead with Cedric Bakambu and Sergi Altimira adding to the cushion.
"When you are happy, everything comes naturally," Antony said, as quoted by El Des Marque. "My head, my heart, told me that I was going to be happy here."
After failing to make the desired impact following his £86million move from Ajax, Ruben Amorim offloaded Antony in a bid for the winger to find his form.
During the winter window, he joined Betis on loan until the end of the season .Speaking in December, the Portuguese tactician said: "He needs more confidence.
"If you remember the Antony at Ajax, he lacks a little bit of confidence to go one-v-one, so he will improve.
“But he's working really hard, he's trying, he's playing more inside than outside, especially in this game (against Tottenham).
"You have to do that to work really hard and that will help him to be a better player."
Antony was signed from Ajax in 2022 as one of Erik ten Hag's first major signings as Reds manager.
