Anthony Martial, Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire - Man United injury latest ahead of Newcastle

Manchester United have been given an injury boost ahead of their trip to St James’ Park to take on in-form Newcastle on Sunday.

The Magpies are unbeaten in four matches and have fired home nine goals in their last two outings. Five of them came against Brentford last Saturday, with Eddie Howe's side enjoying more than a week’s rest ahead of Sunday's fixture.

United edged past Europa League minnows Omonia on Thursday, with Scott McTominay grabbing a stoppage-time winner. They were without five players for the game and it would have been a relief for Erik ten Hag that his side managed to get through the tie without any further injuries.

The United boss has been handed more positive news with two of those sidelined this week ready to potentially make a return against Newcastle.

The Frenchman could be in line to return to the fold this weekend after suffering a third injury of the season against Everton. Martial was forced off after just 29 minutes with a back problem.

The striker missed the start of the season with a hamstring problem before suffering an Achilles issue following the 2-1 win over Liverpool. In his four outings this season, he has still managed to bag three goals and two assists.

Expected return date: October 16

Varane came on against Everton and was named on the bench against Omonia but has not started a game since the Manchester derby defeat. He could return to the line-up on Sunday, with Victor Lindelof most likely making way.
