Annan Athletic gear up for tough away day against Albion Rovers

Annan boss Peter Murphy is gearing up for another tough away day when they tackle Albion Rovers tomorrow on league business.

But the Galabankies were boosted in midweek by ditching Lowland League outfit East Kilbride out of the SPFL Trust Trophy on penalties.

Murphy was up against his former assistant Kevin Rutkiewicz who is now in charge of the South Lanarkshire club.

They slugged out a 1-1 draw as Tommy Goss’s header wiped out Billy Mortimer’s opener.

Goalkeeper Greg Fleming was the Black and Golds’ hero by saving a penalty then scoring one in the 5-4 triumph.

Murphy said: “It was good to get a game so soon after our defeat at home to Stirling Albion last weekend.

“It gave us the chance to get back to winning ways.

“Now we have another good battle tomorrow at Albion Rovers.

“They have just won their first league game of the season when they beat Bonnyrigg Rose 2-0 away so we know we are in for another tough game at their place at Cliftonhill.”

He added of last weekend’s defeat by the Binos: “It was a classic game of two halves because of the strong wind that day.

“And we lost two goals in seven minutes which was really disappointing.

“Now we can make up for that defeat by bouncing back at Albion Rovers.”
