Angry Rangers booing addressed by Aris staffer as Europa League defeat rage sparks live questioning

Tensions boiled over on Thursday night and rage from the Rangers end in Cyprus has prompted questions of Aris Limassol staffers amid their party scenes.

The Cypriot champions have risen rapidly under Russian owner Vladimir Fedorov and after their first league title last season, claimed the biggest European result in their history by edging past Steven Davis' men 2-1 on Europa League duty. It was the first game post-Michael Beale's sacking for Rangers and after Saturday's 3-1 loss at home to Aberdeen in the Premiership, anger was shown from travelling fans towards the players. Aris are ranked 293rd in UEFA's club coefficient rankings, while the club they achieved victory over are 30th.

Abdallah Sima's goal proved of little use as efforts from Alex Moucketou-Moussounda and Shavy Babicka sealed a famous night for Aris. But the inquest now begins at Ibrox with a tricky away trip to St Mirren on domestic business this Sunday. Kostas Papadopoulos, Aris press officer, was asked by Super Sport FM 104.0 about the booing from travelling fans and was sympathetic, although admitted his team were rarely troubled by Rangers' misfiring forwards.

He said on the boos: “I got that too. "We were drawn in a difficult group and in all the games Aris will be the outsider. Our performance was excellent, both defensively and offensively. If you exclude a shot that Vana caught, Rangers didn't create classic chances for us."

He added: "The fact that there are foreign owners helped a lot.The bar has been set very high and you have to keep up with it. It was not only placed for the team, but also for communication, marketing, communication. They want Aris to grow on all levels."
