Ange Postecoglou sees Tottenham award slapped down as losing rival claims Celtic glory shouldn't count

Ange Postecoglou was crowned as the Manager of the Year at the London Football Awards last night - but the decision to hand the Tottenham boss the gong hasn't gone down too well with another man who was in the running for the accolade.

Aussie Postecoglou joined Spurs last summer after two seasons at Celtic, where he claimed back to back league titles and a domestic treble in his final year at Parkhead. The 58-year-old has led the Lilywhites to 14 wins in their first 25 Premier League matches and his eye-catching brand of football has given fans hope that Champions League football could return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next summer.

Postecoglou's men currently sit fifth in the league table, five points behind fourth placed Aston Villa who have played a game more. But is that enough to earn him the title of Manager of the Year? Leyton Orient manager Richie Wellens doesn't seem to think so.

Wellens, who led his team to win League Two last season and is currently eighth in the English third tier, was also up for the award.

The former Premier League midfielder, who has also managed the likes of Salford, Doncaster and Swindon took to social media to vent his frustration and appeared to suggest that Postecoglou only took home the accolade because of his success in the first half of the year with Celtic. He wrote: "Honoured to be in the running for the Scottish Football Manager of the Year awards."

Many Leyton Orient fans applauded their manager's response, with some calling the award a "joke."
