Irish GAA legend reveals Rangers fans 'fired abuse' at him during Ange Postecoglou Celtic Park meeting

An Irish Gaelic football star has told how Rangers fans “fired abuse” at him during a trip to Celtic Park - despite not even knowing who he was!

GAA legend and Hoops fan David Clifford travelled across the Irish Sea two years ago after inspiring Kerry to All-Ireland success. And they were treated to a swashbuckling display as Ange Postecoglou’s men romped to a 4-0 victory over their fierce rivals.

Clifford, speaking on The Football Pod, recalled the trip and revealed how the small band of visiting supporters were the only ones inside an otherwise empty stadium - the away fans gained entry two hours before kick off for safety and security reasons - as they posed for a picture with Postecoglou and were given dog’s abuse. He smiled: “The way they’ve gone now, they’re messing with the ticket allocations. Rangers limited Celtic’s allocation and now Celtic have kind of been doing the same, so there were only 800 Rangers fans at that game, whereas they used to have the full corner. When Celtic went to Ibrox they’d have the full area behind the goal, that was class.

“But there was 800 (Rangers) fans. We came out to meet Ange and we were the first Celtic people they’d seen so they started firing abuse to us. They didn’t have a clue who we were!”
