Ange Postecoglou delivers epic Celtic trophy one liner as Tottenham boss reveals trait he craves in clubs

Ange Postecoglou has revealed he left Celtic for Spurs at the end of last season because he’d won everything at Parkhead and wanted to bring similar joy to a club that has won nothing for years.

Tottenham’s only piece of silverware this century is the League Cup, which they won in 2008. Their last FA Cup win was in 1991 and they haven’t been champions of England for 63 seasons. The Aussie won five of the six domestic trophies during his two seasons in Scotland, finishing with a treble and a team that had scored 114 goals in the league – their highest tally for 85 years – and the chance of doing the same in London led to his departure.

Postecoglou told Four Four Two magazine: “The biggest motivation for me was taking over a big club that hadn’t had success. They’re just the kind of challenges I love and it’s pretty regular in my story – taking over a club which has had a disappointing year and is craving success. That’s what I’ve tried to seek throughout my whole career. When I was at South Melbourne they hadn’t won the league for seven years, at Brisbane they’d never won one, Yokohama 15 years, Celtic a year – and a year at Celtic feels more like 15 years everywhere else!”

Postecoglou has immediately got the Spurs fans believing that the glory days are back. They are currently unbeaten in the Premier League, topping the table on goal difference from Arsenal and two points clear of champions Manchester City.

Ange added: “The thing that really appealed to me was that Spurs hadn’t had success for a long time.”
