Ange admonished over 'Spursy' error as his biggest Celtic backer pleads for Tottenham to keep the faith

Insistent Pat Nevin is utterly convinced Tottenham have the perfect manager in Ange Postecoglou even if Tottenham miss out on the Champions League.

The former Chelsea star has long hailed the ability of the Spurs boss who he saluted his brand of football during his time with Celtic as "extra special and really unusual". And Nevin remains a dedicated follower of Angeball despite Postecoglou copping flak in the wake of Tottenham's meek display in the 3-0 trouncing at the hands of Fulham. Tottenham will likely seal a return to European football's biggest club tournament with a top five finish – with the new rules set to offer an extra place to the fifth-placed team in the Premier League.

But the pundit is adamant Postecoglou remains the right man to see through a new era in N17 and wants Daniel Levy and Co to back him in a major to push the club forward in the coming seasons. Nevin – writing in his BBC blog – said: "Just when Tottenham had the chance to muscle their way into the top four, they did something very, and I hesitate to write this, ‘Spursy’. Famously they have had a habit of grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory, but I think this is unfair on the current side.

"Fulham are tasty at home, Rodrigo Muniz is looking twice as good a player every time he plays and Spurs’ current position is still a very acceptable position considering it is Ange Postecoglou’s first season.‌ He deserves time to make Spurs a top-four side, even if they might miss out this time."
