Matt O’Riley targeted by bottle as Celtic raise more Rangers concerns over ‘repeated’ Ibrox missiles

Celtic have hit out at "appalling and completely unacceptable behaviour" during their clash with Rangers after a glass bottle was allegedly thrown at Matt O'Riley.

It was a dramatic clash between the Scottish Premiership title challengers as Rangers rescued a 3-3 draw against their rivals after Rabbi Matondo's stunning injury-time strike rounded off the scoring in an Old Firm classic. However, ugly scenes of the pitch took place with John Kennedy allegedly being struck with objects from the stands at Ibrox.

In a statement, the Hoops state they have raised their concerns with Rangers after having it confirmed the missile was launched at the midfielder during the Scottish Premiership clash. The Denmark international had netted the second goal of the Ibrox showdown from the penalty spot to add to Daizen Maeda's early strike in Govan.

In a statement to The Sun a Celtic spokesperson said: "It has been confirmed today that a glass bottle was thrown at Matt O'Riley at yesterday’s match. The repeated targeting of our players and staff with missiles is quite appalling and completely unacceptable. We have already raised our serious concerns with Rangers and understand that police are investigating the matter."

Previously, a Rangers fan was jailed for a year after throwing a bottle at a Celtic physiotherapist during an Old Firm game, leaving him scarred for life. Celtic physio Daniel Friel needed four stitches and was left with a scar after he was hit on the head by a bottle in the incident at Ibrox in April 2022.
