Andy Murray Wimbledon swansong in doubt as Scots tennis legend shares crushing injury update

Andy Murray's plans for a Wimbledon swansong are in doubt after he revealed a crushing injury blow.

The Scots tennis star admitted recently that he was now looking forward to the end of his career with retirement looming for the Olympic gold medallist. Many fans started to speculate that a final bow at the site of his greatest triumph in SW19 could be on the cards, with the iconic venue seemingly the perfect place to play one last time before hanging up his racket.

But that's now in doubt after Murray confirmed that a double ankle problem will keep him off the court for an "extended" period after suffering the injury during his Miami Open defeat to Tom Machac. Scans showed that the Dunblane favourite ruptured two of his ankle ligaments. That will rule him out for at least six weeks, although likely longer, meaning we may not see Muzza at Wimbledon again.

However, the 36-year-old was still able to see the funny side: "Yesterday towards the end of my match in Miami I suffered a full rupture of my ATFL and near full thickness rupture of my CFL," he posted on Instagram.

"Goes without saying this is a tough one to take and I’ll be out for an extended period. But I’ll be back with one hip and no ankle ligaments when the time is right."
