Andy Halliday declares Rangers' next transfer window must be PERFECT as he counts the cost of 'huge' wage bill

Andy Halliday has warned Rangers that their latest summer rebuild must be "perfect" after making so many mistakes with last year's.

Philippe Clement has confirmed that he expects a lot of change during the close season, with a number of first players out of contract and some of those who aren't likely to be moved on. After another season of finishing second best to Celtic in the league (barring a miracle in the last two fixtures), it's set to be another busy transfer window in Govan.

Michael Beale embarked on a similar rebuild last year, spending big on the likes of Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers and Danilo. Dessers remains unconvincing as a No 9, Danilo has spent most of the season injured and Lammers was packed off to Utrecht on loan in January. It was a similar story with Jose Cifuentes, who is in Brazil until December with an option to buy.

It's shown spending is no guarantee of success. And after several high profile flops, Halliday reckons his former club have virtually no margin for error if they want to finally get the better of their city rivals over the course of the season.

"Fundamentally, at their strongest, Celtic have more quality in their team," he told Clyde 1 Super Scoreboard. "Rangers have been decimated with injuries for a long period of time and you saw the starting XI, I just don't think they had enough players to hurt Celtic at Celtic Park.
