Rangers transfer news bulletin as Thomas Galdames skyrockets up agenda while Jose Cordoba collapse detailed

Rangers could turn their attention to Chilean defender Thomas Galdames after the £3million swoop for Jose Cordoba dramatically collapsed.

Philippe Clement looked set to make Levski Sofia defender Cordoba his second summer signing following on from the arrival of Brazilian left back Jefte. But Ibrox chiefs last night ended their interest in the 22-year-old Panama international who now looks set to sign for Norwich City. The Cordoba no deal came after the player had been given a tour of Rangers facilities ahead of a proposed move from Bulgaria. He was even a guest at the win over Kilmarnock earlier this month.

His performances are expected to win him a place in his nation’s Copa America squad. But Levski Sofia chiefs expect that competition to raise his value - and Rangers have decided to move on to other targets for now. Clement is eager to bolster his backline and could swoop on South America for a second time with Galdames heavily linked.

The 25-year-old left sided defender is expected to play his last game for Argentinian club Godoy Cruz in this week’s Copa Argentina tie against El Porvenir. Galdames, who has made 47 appearances for Primera Division club, has only six months left of his contract and would be available for a cut-price fee if signed during the summer transfer window.
