Andre Onana's passionate reaction shows he possesses the quality Manchester United need most

Andre Onana has refused to play a blame game for Manchester United’s leaky defence in a passionate response to a question about the team’s fragility at the back.

United have shipped 10 goals in their five matches so far ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Bayern Munich for their Champions League opener. Erik ten Hag is suffering a number of injuries in defence.

Raphael Varane is back in training but is unavailable for the trip to Germany while Harry Maguire picked up a problem earlier this week. Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have all sustained significant issues too.

Ahead of the match, a reporter noted United’s defensive issues and posed a question about it to Onana, pointing out that was not particularly down to him. The Cameroon star - who has only kept one clean sheet so far - immediately responded by putting a hand on the interviewer’s shoulder and looking him straight in the eye to deliver his response.

“Listen. Listen. We are in this together,” he began. “We win together, we lose together. Clean sheet is for all of us. So when we concede goals the responsibility is Andre Onana.

“My teammates are working hard. And if they have to point a finger, they have to point it at me because I’m the goalkeeper.”
