Andre Onana has already told Erik ten Hag he can do what David de Gea struggled to at Manchester United

Signing a new goalkeeper is one of the big priorities for Erik ten Hag this summer and recent events at Manchester United have made this all the more important to do.

David de Gea, as things stand, is a free agent after his contract at United expired at the end of June. The Spaniard's spell at Old Trafford has come to a conclusion after 12 years at the club - or has it?

The goalkeeper could yet still pen fresh terms at United, with talks still ongoing between the goalkeeper and the club. But even if De Gea does remain in Manchester, signing a new stopper is among the chief priorities for Ten Hag this summer.

Andre Onana of Inter Milan has emerged as a potential successor for De Gea. The Italian side have confirmed that United have made their interest in Onana known to the San Siro outfit, though no bid had yet been lodged.

The 27-year-old stopper has only been with the Nerazzurri for one season, but reached the Champions League final with Inter as they suffered a 1-0 loss to Manchester City in Istanbul last month. Before then, Onana had been with Dutch side Ajax, when he played under Ten Hag, meaning there is the prospect of the goalkeeper linking up with his former boss at Old Trafford this summer.

Though De Gea has won plaudits for his shot stopping abilities over the years with United, his ability to play out short from the back has been called into question. It is an aspect of his game which could be improved upon and it is therefore not surprising to see links with other stoppers.
