Andre Onana can use moment of magic to replicate David de Gea's stratospheric Manchester United rise

Manchester United are no strangers to new goalkeepers who need time to adapt to the grand surroundings of Old Trafford.

Flash back to August 2011 and Sir Alex Ferguson was recalling the difficulties Peter Schmeichel had to endure as a means of reassuring David de Gea. Having arrived in the summer to replace Edwin van der Sar, the young Spaniard from Atletico Madrid was finding life in the Premier League to be a chore.

This let-off saved the 'keeper from a full post-mortem after the final whistle with analysis focusing more on the superb turn around rather than the frailties in goal.

Further misery was to come for De Gea against West Bromwich Albion in the league with the title of 'dodgy 'keeper' being unwillingly bestowed upon him. There were even calls for back-up Anders Lindegaard to come in and take over from the seemingly unreliable new signing.

But, Ferguson stuck with his man and reaped the rewards in one of the biggest matches of the season. With the score at 1-0, De Gea produced a magnificent penalty save to deny Arsenal's Robin van Persie in between the same sticks Andre Onana protected against FC Copenhagen in Tuesday night.

While the stop was by no means as late on as we saw this week, De Gea's efforts were equally important as United went on to demolish the Gunners 8-2 at the Theatre of Dreams. At the end of the match, a delighted Ashley Young heralded the outcome as being down to De Gea's brilliance.
