Amir Khan snubbed by Canelo Alvarez as boxer names his most difficult opponents

Amir Khan has failed to make Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez's top three list in terms of toughest opponents.

The 34-year-old Mexican, who currently competes at super-middleweight, squared off against 'King' Khan in 2016, defending his then WBC middleweight title in Las Vegas. Despite Khan, aged 37 at the time, being a formidable adversary with a record of 31-3 and renowned for his exceptional speed, Canelo made short work of the Bolton-born boxer, knocking him out in the sixth round.

Alvarez floored Khan with a powerful overhand-right, causing Khan to crash to the canvas before referee Kenny Bayless called off the fight. And while this may have been one of Khan's toughest challenges in the ring to date, particularly given the brutal knockout, it seems Alvarez doesn't share the same sentiment.

Canelo boasts an impressive 61-2 record in his career so far and arguably the pinnacle of his career was becoming the first man to be undisputed in the super-middleweight division through his victory over Caleb Plant in 2021. Alvarez entered the fight already holding the WBA (Super), WBC and WBO super-middleweight titles, risking them all for Plant's IBF super-middleweight title.

After making boxing history with an 11th round TKO victory over his American rival at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Canelo did not name Plant or Khan as his toughest opponents, despite the immense expectation to triumph, reports the Mirror.
