Amir Khan and Kell Brook given retirement instructions after Manchester grudge match

Amir Khan and Kell Brook have both been urged to retire following their spectacular grudge match in Manchester on Saturday.

Fans had waited over a decade for the two rivals to face-off in the ring and the bout didn't disappoint, with Brook ultimately ending victorious via a sixth-round stoppage after inflicting heavy punishment upon Khan.

After the fight, Khan all but confirmed he will retire, while Brook toyed with the idea of further bouts - with both Chris Eubank Jr and Connor Benn calling him out.

However, legendary fighter Andre Ward believes that it's time for both fighters to bring an end to their illustrious careers.

"The winner and the loser tonight should retire... it's time for Amir Khan to go," Ward said during the US commentary of Saturday's bout.

He wasn't the only person who backed the pair to hang up his gloves, as Carl Froch also made similar comments to Boxing Social.

"I thought it was a really good performance by both fighters. Great for the crowd, great to watch and great for television.

"I don’t like the fact that Brook was called out by Chris Eubank Jr. I don’t think that’s a wise move for him. This should be his final fight, his swan song.

"Amir Khan has nothing to be ashamed of, to be fair.... Khan took licks tonight, he took a lot of punishment.

"His legs were gone, which means he was hurt. There’s something going on with your central nervous system when your legs are gone.

"I’m glad he was able to finish the fight on his feet. The referee saved him from further punishment. He’s had a fantastic career, Amir Khan. He’s fought the best of the best."
