Americans hand Canada's Peterman, Gallant 1st loss in Olympic mixed doubles curling
The Canadian mixed doubles curling team of Brett Gallant and Jocelyn Peterman dropped a 7-5 decision to the American duo of Korey Dropkin and Cory Thiesse on Friday morning at the Milano-Cortina Olympic Games.
Dropkin made a double-takeout and stuck his shooter to set up a three-point seventh end that broke a 4-4 tie.
Canada was unable to generate any scoring opportunities in the eighth end and settled for a single, falling to 3-1 in round-robin play. The Americans improved to 3-0.
In other early games, Great Britain's Bruce Mouat and Jennifer Dodds beat Sweden's Isabella Wrana and Rasmus Wrana 7-4. Italy's Amos Mosaner and Stefania Constantini defeated Switzerland's Yannick Schwaller and Briar Schwaller-Huerlimann 12-4
Competition continues at the Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium through the medal games on Tuesday.
Traditional four-player team play begins Wednesday and continues until the final day of the Games on Feb. 22.
