Canada 4th in figure skating team event after Gilles-Poirier rhythm dance

Canada sits fourth in the figure skating team event at the Milano-Cortina Olympic Games after one segment.

Toronto's Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier, of Unionville, Ont., scored 85.79 points in their rhythm dance to Supermodel by RuPaul at Milano Ice Skating Arena on Friday morning, hours before the opening ceremony.

Three-time reigning world champions Madison Chock and Evan Bates put the United States in first place with 91.06 points.

France sits second (89.98) after the rhythm dance from former Canadian skater Laurence Fournier Beaudry and reigning Olympic champion Guillaume Cizeron.

Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson of Great Britain followed in third (86.85).

The team event continues Friday with the pairs and women's short programs, followed by the men's short program Saturday evening. The top five countries after the short programs in the 10-team event advance to the final, which wraps up Sunday.
