Alton Towers fans can ride new roller coaster at night during first After Dark event this weekend

As if the chance to ride Alton Towers' relaunched Nemesis ride isn't enough, fans can enjoy it in the dark during one of its new events.

Alton After Dark is just one of the new experiences launching at the park this year and means that opening hours have been extended until 8pm.

The first takes place this weekend and just happens to coincide with the reopening of the park for the new season - and the launch of Nemesis Reborn, the new-look ride opening on Saturday, March 16 following a revamp of the iconic Nemesis.

The original ride, enjoyed by millions of thrill-seekers since its launch three decades ago, has had a complete overhaul and more than 100 metres of hand-crafted tentacles have been created to bring the beast back to life.

Part of the transformation has also seen the entire 250-tonne, 716-metre-long track replaced, along with the two ride trains.

Bosses at the Staffordshire attraction say the addition of 'extensive, new, immersive story-telling elements will propel visitors into a compelling new narrative from the moment they set foot in the resort’s Forbidden Valley'.

Bianca Sammut, divisional director at Alton Towers Resort, said: “As the final finishing touches take place, we are beyond excited to open the doors to Alton Towers Resort on March 16 so visitors can enjoy the heart-pounding thrills of Nemesis Reborn for themselves.
