Altay Bayindir could be handed dream Manchester United shirt number if transfer is completed

Manchester United are one step closer to completing their revamp between the posts at Old Trafford.

Having allowed David De Gea to depart this summer - after 12 seasons at the club - Erik ten Hag settled on Andre Onana as his replacement. The former Ajax and Inter Milan man cost United around £47.2million and has started all three Premier League games so far.

But that was not the beginning or end. Following sit-down chats with Ten Hag, while seeking clarification over his role, Tom Heaton opted to stay put and is now on the mend after injury. Dean Henderson is now set to move on and revive his England career elsewhere.

Henderson, 26, is heading to Crystal Palace for £20million plus add-ons after being unable to cement his number one status at Old Trafford having progressing through the club's famed academy. Matej Kovar and former loanee Jack Butland were also deemed surplus to requirements this summer.

Coming through the door is five-cap Turkey international Altay Bayindir, who will cost around £6million and his signature is expected to be rubber-stamped before this week's deadline. Ten Hag and key figures behind the scenes have until 11pm on Friday night to strike-up any further business at Old Trafford.

Once the ink is dry on that would-be deal, the 25-year-old will have to choose his shirt number this season and he has one stand-out option in that regard. With first-choice goalkeeper Onana picking No.24 rather than No.1 after he was signed from Inter Milan this summer, that shirt number has yet to be reassigned.
