Alpine skier Eva Vukadinova fumes after course worker interrupts Winter Olympics slalom run

“Beyond disappointed” skier Eva Vukadinova has unleashed a furious tirade after an ignorant course worker forced her to abandon a slalom run, claiming the man ruined her Winter Olympics campaign and put her at risk of serious injury.

The Bulgarian was competing for a medal at the Beijing Games on Wednesday when she had to stop her run down the Yanqing National Alpine Skiing Centre course.

The man was in her path apparently to retrieve a gate key, a metal instrument used to screw in poles which form the gates, which was left on the course during work to fix one of the poles.

She was granted a re-run and completed it in one minute and 0.71 seconds to sit 49th after the first round.

She was unable to compete her second run and was therefore disqualified from the competition.

In an Instagram post, the 20-year-old expressed disbelief at the “unacceptable” moment and suggested it impacted her ability to perform at her best, particularly as she attempting to compete with a broken hand.

“I STILL CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED TODAY,” Vukadinova wrote.

“First of all, a lot of emotions are going through me right now. I cannot even describe what I felt after that first run.

“I thought ‘Why me?’, ‘Why didn’t that happen to any of the top 30 girls?’, ‘Could that even happen to any of them?’, ‘Is that even fair?’

“All I know is that even with a fractured hand, I skied very good (before that guy decided just to leave the metal on the gate). I showed myself that I can, that I am strong, that I can get through anything!”
