Ally McCoist names 3 Rangers transfer priorities to put title squeeze on Celtic

Ally McCoist has identified three key areas where Rangers MUST sign players this month and they come with one vital condition.

There's a title race on, even if the Light Blues missed the opportunity to set up a chance to leapfrog Celtic by losing 2-1 at Parkhead at the end of last year. However, they still have two games in hand on their rivals and can cut the gap to two points if they win them both. But the Ibrox club's record goal scorer has warned they need more in during the window if they want to win the league.

So far, Philippe Clement has only brought in fabio Silva on loan from Wolves. The striker was a welcome addition after Danilo's injury, but Cyriel dessers is still struggling for form and Sam Lammers has been packed off on loan to Utrecht. Kemar Roofe's fitness is never going to stop being a worry, so McCoist is concerned at the current options the Belgian has in the area of the pitch where he used to thrive.

But any firepower Gers add to their arsenal will need to be supplied with ammunition. And McCoist reckons better is required in that department as well, with only the backline looking strong in terms of depth. He told talkSPORT: "Rangers have got to strengthen. The centre forward area is a concern with Danilo being out injured.

"Wide areas certainly need strengthening and probably another midfielder. At the back Tavernier's return has been ridiculous. Yilmaz was nearly away to Verona but that seems to be on hold. So it doesn't look like there's going to be a lot of chances defensively and I don't think defence is a priority for Rangers. The goalkeeper has been out of this world.
