Ally McCoist hit with brutal Scotland stat bomb as Rangers hero refuses to forgive one Cristiano Ronaldo sin

Unshakeable Ally McCoist has refused to press the panic button on Scotland's form after the latest late heartbreak at the hands of Portugal.

Steve Clarke’s men came within touching distance of their first point in the top flight of the Nations League against the big guns of Portugal - before Cristano Ronaldo popped from close range with three minutes left on the clock in Lisbon. Scotland were 1-0 up through Scott McTominay’s opener - before Angus Gunn palmed Bruno Fernandes long-range effort into the net in the second and the veteran superstar saw off the attentions off Scott McKenna to find the net.

But McCoist took confidence from the performance in the Nations League double header - despite late heartbreak at the hands of Poland and Portugal. It leaves Scotland with a run of just one win in the last 14 games - but the Rangers legend was keen to focus on the positives on the talkSPORT Breakfast Show.

He said: "Our record recently is really poor. I think we have had one win in 14, but the last two games we have been miles better than we were in Germany at the Euros, which I have got to be honest wouldn't be hard.

"It was a bit disappointing. You know what it's like, I'm not nearly as disappointed with the Portugal result and performance as I was with the level of performance in Germany."

Aston Villa legend Gabby Agbonlanhor responded with a brutal stats drop: "Ally, I agree. It's easy to come on here and hammer Scotland with their record. One win in 14, one win in their last eight and that was against Gibraltar, 33 goals conceded, in five of their last games they have conceded after the 85th minute - that is the thing that worries me.
